Led by Chandrika Francis of Oshun Swim School. Bartram’s Garden is partnering with Oshun Swim School this fall to offer a series of swimming and water-related workshops for Southwest Philadelphia residents.
This class/workshop centers Black womxn and non-binary people, but all identities are welcome. Friday morning classes are for elders specifically. All other ages may join the Thursday morning or Friday afternoon cohorts.
This foundational swim course will run once weekly for three weeks (three classes total). It is a step towards empowered, liberated, and skilled swimming for Southwest Philadelphia community members. We will build skills around breathing, understanding your body in relationship with water, floating, and correct body alignment. Afro-Indigenous-centered, trauma-informed, and healing-oriented instruction supports you to deepen your relationship with water.
No previous swim skills necessary. This class is geared towards beginner adults with a fear of water, but also welcomes those who already love being in water, and want to develop their skills in a safer space.
Pool Description: These classes take place at the Fitness Alive Center City location. It has a heated indoor full-size pool with a shallow end with steps and a deep end of 6 ft.
