Resiliency Fund
Finding renewal in the land and river, in the community and their stories for centuries.
Now more than ever we long for connection to one another and the land. We remain committed to sustaining this legendary landscape and its role in local food sovereignty, youth employment, and arts investment.
Support our Resiliency Fund and help ensure this work continues uninterrupted.
A gift of ANY size also comes with a Friend-level membership!
There’s a recurring donation option, too.
Pitch in to help us steward the garden at this time of increased visitation, support the Sankofa Community Farm through a productive harvest, and meet our financial commitments to artists, educators, and youth.
We’re committed.
Even in a time of social distancing and economic uncertainty, Bartram’s Garden will continue to thrive with support from members, partners, and neighbors. Despite cancellations and other losses, for this season we are committed to:
- Hosting 60 neighborhood families through our community garden program, providing safe access to seedlings, water, and soil.
- Fulfilling our financial commitments to the neighborhood youth hired to work on the Sankofa Community Farm and to the neighborhood artists and educators contracted to present programming this spring.
- Tending the 3.5-acre Sankofa Community Farm to provide fresh, chemical-free, culturally relevant produce for our neighbors this summer.
- Preserving more than a dozen rare heirloom vegetable varieties through seed keeping.
- Growing and distributing more than 60,000 vegetable starts and seedlings to 130 local gardeners in partnership with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
- Maintaining these 50 acres for safe outdoor recreation and enjoyment during a time of social distancing, especially for our immediate neighbors in one of the city’s most industrialized areas.
Contributions to the Resiliency Fund enable us to pursue this vital work.
Let’s talk resilience!
Bartram’s Garden embodies transformative growth, discovery, and inspiration. The land and waters we help steward are resilient: a neglected baseball diamond became a vibrant farm; a once-toxic river now welcomes thousands of boaters and anglers; an industrial landfill grew into lush meadow, home to nine beehives!

What signs of growth have you seen while visiting?
Do you have Bartram’s Garden plants in your yard or planters that are flourishing?
Maybe you have a garden memory to share?
Or a recipe you like using Sankofa Community Farm produce?
How does Bartram’s Garden sustain you? We’d love to know.
We invite you to explore our 50 acres and recreational trails; to find grounding and well-being in nature (all while remaining a safe distance from others).
