Tree Tenders are community-focused volunteers, trained by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Tree Tender course to site, plant, maintain and prune street trees. Tree Tenders are not only rebuilding their relationship to land and their neighborhood through tree planting, they are community organizers and advocates for happier and healthier neighborhoods. The SouthWest Tree Tender zone is from 49th to 65th and from Chester to the Schuylkill River.
Interested applicants can take the next Tree Tenders course in May, for which PHS is offering a Southwest resident-exclusive scholarship to waive the $40 fee. After your training, you’ll be contacted by your local Tree Tender Leader and notified of the next community planting day. You can also sign-up for a street tree and volunteer on community planting days.
